RUSTY WRIGHT BAND

WONDER MAN

SADSON MUSIC 0153302015

WONDER MAN–AIN’T THAT THE BLUES–BLACK HAT BOOGIE–YOU KNOW I KNOW–LOVE’S GONNA TREAT YOU RIGHT–GONNA COME A DAY–CORVETTE SUNDAY–ARMS OF ANOTHER–WHISKEY DRINKIN’ WOMAN–CHINFOOT BALL

Rusty Wright has taken a little blues, a little Southern boogie, and a touch of soul to create a bold, innovative sound that will appeal to a broad cross-section of music lovers.  It’s the Rusty Wright Band’s fifth release for Sadson Records, entitled “Wonder Man,” ten cuts of all-original material.  Rusty describes the sound as “bluescentric,’ and that fits in perfectly with his over-the-top  guitar style.

The set kicks off in a big way with the bombast of the horn section leading the way as Rusty explains how to make your lover come around–“walk right thru that door” and “be her Wonder Man.”  “Black Hat Boogie” has clever guitar-and-organ interplay before blasting off into some cool psychedelic sounds at the climax.  “You Know I Know you’re doin’ me wrong” is a classic minor-key cheatin’ tale, while “Gonna Come A Day” is a fine slow-blues that has Rusty gettin’ the last laugh on an evil woman from his youth.  “Arms Of Another” details the breakup of a love affair, ending with Rusty’s ultimate redemption.  “Corvette Sunday” is a top-down, crank-it-up-to-ten instrumental, while the blues-rock grunge of “Whisky Drinkin’ Woman” reminds us that she “feels no pain” and “has no shame, as long as you’re buyin!”

We had two favorites, too.  “Ain’t That The blues” details the hard times in today’s economy, where “if you wanna be rich, you better be born that way,” featuring an extended solo from Rusty at the bridge.  And, Rusty creates a classic Southern rock vibe with his blazing guitar work on “Love’s Gonna Treat You Right.’

Rusty Wright defines a “Wonder Man” as a modern-day Renaissance man, always living life to the fullest and creating joy for others.  For us, he took us on the ultimate sonic voyage!  Until next time…Sheryl and Don Crow.
