HEARD THE LIE

HEARD THE LIE–HOW MANY TIMES–READY FOR LOVE–BRIGHTER DAY (FEAT. JANIVA MAGNESS)–ANGELS WATCHING–MAN IN THE SKY–SUGAR–DARLING–LIGHT ME UP–I DO BAD THINGS–GROWING DIM

Gina Sicilia has been a Nashville resident for a number of years now, and has fit right in with the local songwriting and performing community.  Most all her songs have underlying blues themes, mixed in with the myriad of influences that come from living here.  Quite the prolific artist as well, she has just released her eighth album in just a little more than a decade, entitled “Heard The Lie.”  She wrote or co-wrote eight of the eleven cuts herein, and all are geared toward love and relationships, and all are songs everyone can relate to on an emotional level.

Leading off is the title cut, finding our heroine “alone again,” in a broken relationship where all the “I love you’s” are empty.   Her Philly roots show in the classic soul sounds of “How Many Times are we going to say goodbye,” while she teams up with labelmate Janiva Magness for one of our favorites.  Dealing with letting go of the past, our heroines now look toward the promise of a “Brighter Day.”

Gina offers up some “sweet” cuts herein, too.  A cool country-blues groove has her looking for that special “Sugar that only you can supply,” while the flameco-flavored “Darling” offers the promise of a  lifelong love.

We had two other favorites, too.  Those sultry, smoky eyes have always led us to wonder about Gina’s “naughty” side, and she proves she’s got one with “I Do Bad Things,” as our girl has spent many a day “doing anything to get just what I want.”  And, the haunting, chain-gang percussion of the Delta-gospel of “Man In The Sky” finds her prayers going unanswered.

Gina Sicilia has always crafted songs directly from her heart and soul to us fans.  Those fans adore her, and you can read a heartfelt review on Gina’s Facebook page from one of those admirers.  Enjoy “Heard The Lie” from this world-class artist!   Until next time…Sheryl and Don Crow.
