LISA BELL

BACK SEAT

BACK SEAT–I CAN’T STAND THE RAIN–THE ROAD IS ALWAYS LONGER–TAKE ME TO THE OTHER SIDE–I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT FROM ME–ALWAYS CHASING DARKNESS–WHAT WENT WRONG–MY LOVE–INDIA–GET IN THE FLOW–INSPIRATION–MEET ME IN THE SPACE BETWEEN

Lisa Bell graduated from the University Of Missouri Conservatory Of Music, and, during her formative years, was an accomplished jazz singer, before finding her niche’ in the Americana field.  On her latest album, “Back Seat,” she wrote or co-wrote all twelve of these cuts.  This set finds her at the Crossroads, kinda–no, not musically or in the deal-goin-down Robert Johnson way, but as a woman who, after 20 years finds the nest empty and pondering what’s next.  Thus, she opens the proceedings by proudly proclaiming, “I’m not willing to take a Back Seat while my dreams pass me by!”  A cool sax runs thru the tune that looks at life as a musician and the satisfaction gained as “The Road Is Always Longer when you’re searching for the end,” while Lisa pays a stunning tribute to the sights, sounds, and “great divide” she encountered on her journey to “India.”

We had two favorites, too.  She gives herself and the listener a personal pep talk, urging us not to get caught up in the daily bustle of life, but, rather, to push ourselves to “Get In The Flow.”  One of the most powerful cuts on the set is “My Love,” as Lisa copes with the loss of a loved one, hoping that someday, “love’s healing waters will bring you back to me!”

Lisa Bell, with “Back Seat,” has created an album mixed with empowerment anthems, unique looks at long-term love and loss, and songs that prove her musical journey has really just begun!  Until next time…Sheryl and Don Crow, The Nashville Blues And Roots Alliance.
